Company Description

We are FBC UK, Fox's Burton's Companies! ……And we bake the UK's most incredible biscuits (we might be slightly biased, but we will leave that for you to judge).

FBC UK was a match made in heaven, with two of the top UK biscuits manufacturers (Burton's Biscuits and Fox's Biscuits) coming together to create one unique, integrated company.

We are home to famous iconic brands, including Maryland, Fox's, Jammie Dodger & Rocky, to name just a few. We are proud manufacturing partners to some of the biggest UK retailers and household names. We bake our incredible biscuits at eight bakeries across the UK, located at Isle of Arran, Livingston, Blackpool, Llantarnam, Edinburgh, Kirkham, Batley & Dorset and our HQ in St Albans. Together, we employ circa 4,000 amazing colleagues across all our locations.

Whilst we know that we have delicious products we also know that that the key ingredient to our success is our people, and the passion we have for our brands. You could be the jammy to our dodger, party ring to our Fox’s or the choc-chip to our Maryland?!  We knead people with innovative ideas, an entrepreneurial spirit, and the commitment to drive FBC UK to success.

We are committed to building an inclusive workforce that feels empowered to build a fulfilling and successful career. By embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) we create a supportive environment for people to thrive and strive to have more positive impact.

We understand that having formal and on-the-job learning opportunities is key to our colleagues’ professional and personal growth. We are committed to providing an environment where everyone can learn from each other and grow through a variety of learning experiences.

Our colleagues make our business special. With strong community values, we believe FBC UK is a more prosperous and fun place to work when people feel free to be themselves. We believe in the power of being authentic, entrepreneurial, and supporting each other whilst meeting our business goals.

About the Role

As Warehouse Manager of our Batley bakery, you will oversee the operational, financial, and legislative aspects of the FBC distribution function within the site. This role is pivotal in ensuring efficient storage and management of finished goods, packaging materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and third-party storage. You will lead the team to maintain compliance, optimize processes, and deliver a seamless flow of goods through the supply chain.

Main Responsibilities

Budget Control

  • Maintain accurate control of packaging, WIP, and raw material stocks through cycle counting, stock rotation, and effective use of SAP in collaboration with the Factory Supply Chain Team. This ensures minimal shelf-life expiry and reduces potential write-offs.
  • Monitor and manage all overhead costs related to storage, MHE, repairs, and waste, ensuring strict adherence to budgetary limits.
  • Control overtime expenditure, providing a detailed weekly cost report to maintain transparency and accountability.

Accountability & Principal Outputs

  • Guarantee that daily and weekly production plans are achievable through effective resource and stock management.
  • Coordinate with warehouses to ensure timely delivery of packaging and WIP materials.
  • Oversee stock movement to the Distribution Centre (DC), ensuring prompt and accurate transfers.
  • Conduct weekly reviews to identify and address stock with no usage, preventing unnecessary holding costs.
  • Collaborate with transport teams to optimize tub movements and ensure availability for freezing products.
  • Drive productivity improvements within your team, leveraging Lean Six Sigma methodologies and providing regular progress updates.
  • Champion sustainable Continuous Improvement initiatives by engaging teams in workplace organization and applying LEAN principles.
  • Implement and maintain 5S standards, continuously reviewing and enhancing existing improvements.

Quality

  • Ensure thorough preparation for internal audits and provide full support to the Technical team in achieving customer and external accreditation.
  • Manage auditor interactions and site visits, taking ownership of all corrective actions.
  • Foster a culture of quality awareness by promoting adherence to product standards and GMP. Utilize effective visual displays, accurate record-keeping, regular audits, and timely corrective measures to maintain compliance.

Who we are looking for

  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations and inventory management principles.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills, with excellent communication and coaching abilities. Experienced in handling disciplinary matters, grievances, and well-versed in employment legislation (e.g., Working Time Directive).
  • Health & Safety and Food Safety certified, with solid knowledge of HACCP and GMP standards.
  • Highly computer literate, proficient in SAP, Excel, and recipe control systems such as Promtek (or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies, including Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt) and 5S principles.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with a logical approach to problem-solving and process optimization.
  • Experience working with complex automated manufacturing systems; engineering knowledge or experience would be advantageous.

FBC UK is committed to building a diverse and inclusive culture in which all employees feel welcomed and appreciated and have the same opportunities. We believe all of our people are equally talented in their own way. In nurturing the curiosity and natural abilities of our employees, we provide them, generation after generation, the means to succeed personally and professionally, enabling them to craft their journey at FBC UK.
